Fun Summer Activities for Kids: Beat Boredom with These Family-Friendly Ideas
The end of the school year is just around the corner! Do you know what you will be doing all summer long? The increase of unstructured time can lead to more time on screens or kids complaining about being bored (already?!) While summer is a great time to relax and maybe let the TV or video games run a little longer, it's important to have a balance of activities. Figuring out what to do with all the extra time can be difficult and feel overwhelming. Let us take some of that burden off of you with a list of fun, family-friendly activities for the summer. Here is your chance to take an active approach to bond with your kids and keep them active!
Check out one of the many farmer’s markets in Atlanta and work as a family to create a meal from what you bought. Check out this guide to several of the markets in the area.
Head to the Home Depot Backyard and attend an Inspired Learning Event which include classes like Planting 101, How to Ride a Bike, Beginners Camping. If you can’t make it to the Backyard, each Home Depot offers kids’ DIY workshops or at-home project kits on the first Saturday of each month.
Atlanta has so many great museums and several offer free days.
The Atlanta History Center is free for the first weekend of each month.
The High Museum of Art is free on the second Sunday of each month with special family programing.
The Center for Puppetry Arts is free on July 1, 2023. You can also head to a Fulton County Library and check out Passport to Puppetry for additional free passes.
These museums are always free: Fernbank Museum, Georgia Capitol Museum, Marietta and Roswell Fire Museums.
Take a stroll on the Atlanta Beltline. Before you go, check out this interactive map of trails, parks, and art installations along the way. Make a scavenger hunt of the art on the Beltline (like Tiny Doors ATL)
Speaking of Tiny Doors ATL, on the third Saturday of each month, Tiny Doors ATL hosts an open studio where you can see how the art comes to life and take a peak at retired doors.

Atlanta Children’s Film Festival is a 2-week event filled with workshops and screenings of films made for kids and by kids. The kickoff event on July 9, 2023 is free.
